NAFSA has released data on the economic contributions of international students to the U.S. economy. NAFSA conducts an annual state-by-state and congressional district-level analysis of the economic contributions of international students to the U.S. economy. The economic contributions of international students are in addition to the immeasurable academic and cultural value these students bring to U.S. campuses and local communities.
The economic value of international students at U.S. community colleges
International students studying at U.S. community colleges contributed $1.3 billion to the U.S. economy and supported 6,095 jobs to the U.S. economy during the 2021-2022 academic year. For every eight international students, one U.S. job is created and supported by spending in higher education accommodation, dining, retail, transportation, telecommunication, and health insurance sectors.
Overall benefits from international students
Overall International students studying at U.S. colleges and universities contribute$33.8 billion to the U.S. economy and support 335,423 jobs. International Students in English Language Programs at U.S. College and University
International students enrolled in English language programs(ELP) at U.S. colleges and universities contributed $241.9 million and supported 2,250 jobs to the U.S. economy during the 2021-2022 academic year.
